Ingredient Breakdown

Mini marshmallows – I recommend using mini marshmallows because they’re easier to melt. Don’t use stale marshmallows because they will make your Rice Krispie Treats stale.

Butter – I always recommend using unsalted butter but salted butter works if that’s all you have on hand, just be sure to omit the 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

Salt and vanilla extract – enhances flavor. Always use pure vanilla extract instead of imitation for best flavor.

Rice Krispies cereal – you can use any brand of crisp rice cereal. Don’t use stale cereal because it will make your Rice Krispie Treats stale.

  • Other kinds of cereal – swap out the crisp rice cereal for Fruit Pebbles, Lucky Charms, Cocoa Krispies, etc.!

Pro Tips For Homemade Rice Krispie Treats

  • Weigh your ingredients using a kitchen scale! Measuring ingredients by volume is not accurate; baking is a science after all!
  • Make sure your parchment paper hangs over the sides of the pan for easy removal after cooling!
  • Use fresh ingredients! Stale marshmallows or cereal will result in stale Rice Krispie Treats.
  • Don’t over cook the marshmallows otherwise your Rice Krispie Treats will become very hard after cooling! Be sure to remove them from the heat once they’re just melted.
  • Don’t press the Rice Krispie Treats too firmly into the pan otherwise they will turn out very dense and hard.
