Ingredient Breakdown
Mini marshmallows – I recommend using mini marshmallows because they’re easier to melt. Don’t use stale marshmallows because they will make your Rice Krispie Treats stale.
Butter – I always recommend using unsalted butter but salted butter works if that’s all you have on hand, just be sure to omit the 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Salt and vanilla extract – enhances flavor. Always use pure vanilla extract instead of imitation for best flavor.
Rice Krispies cereal – you can use any brand of crisp rice cereal. Don’t use stale cereal because it will make your Rice Krispie Treats stale.
M&Ms – I like using mini M&Ms but regular sized ones will work too!

How To Make M&M Rice Krispie Treats
1. Set aside 2oz (1 cup) of mini marshmallows. In a large pot, melt the remaining mini marshmallows and cubed butter on medium low heat while stirring constantly. Remove from heat once the marshmallows are just melted.
2. Stir in the salt and vanilla extract. Then mix in the Rice Krispie cereal and remaining cup of mini marshmallows. Once combined, mix in the mini M&Ms.
3. Gently press into the prepared 8×8 inch pan. If desired, immediately press extra mini M&Ms on top. Let cool to room temperature for 30-60 minutes before slicing. Store M&M Rice Krispie Treats in an airtight container for up to 4 days at room temperature.

Pro Tips For M&M Rice Krispie Treats
- Weigh your ingredients using a kitchen scale! Measuring ingredients by volume is not accurate; baking is a science after all!
- Make sure your parchment paper hangs over the sides of the pan for easy removal after cooling!
- Use fresh ingredients! Stale marshmallows or cereal will result in stale Rice Krispie Treats.
- Don’t over cook the marshmallows otherwise your Rice Krispie Treats will become very hard after cooling! Be sure to remove them from the heat once they’re just melted.
- Don’t press the Rice Krispie Treats too firmly into the pan otherwise they will turn out very dense and hard.
